so i have a video of my guibo area where the join to the transmission output shaft connects the drive shaft.
it seems i have excessive play..do iI? i am looking for input on the video below.
For years this car has a very bad drive line chatter when clutching the car, especially in reverse. example is...if i am clutching the car to move it and push the clutch in during the clutch release it chatters horribly.. anyone have any input on what this may be? it seems that the output shaft on the differential is tight and the center mount seems to not have play.

kind of a dual thread topic here, i have another issue lately. i have pin pointed the problem occurance and it seems to be during accel or decell (i have not tried in neutral.) when at low speeds, 1st gear or low 2nd gear and taking a right hand turn i get a huge clunking noise. I can even feel it.
little history on that, i have within the last year repaired the subframe mounts because 2 of them tore. i have confirmed that the welds are still holding strong and thats not the issue. i have tried every nut and bolt, and they are all fully tightened and not loose. No broken parts or disconnected parts. Everything is together properly. I have also checked the strut top mounts as well. Struts are brand new as well and working properly. one last thing. if i beat the hell out of this car, IE: high speed cornering, medium speed cornering, burnings out, launches etc etc..it has no clunking issue.
Just some input please guys :-) and sorry for the Novel thats horribly written..

Bumping this up. Having the same issues with the clunking. Pretty much everything has been replaced as well. It's also more pronounced in reverse.

I thought that was normal, IMHO. If you think that's bad, you should see how sloppy the ones on my Honda motorcycles are.
I have a clunk from my diff though - not sure what that's about.
Do either of you have lightweight flywheels or recent clutch jobs?

Nope. Pretty sure I need a new clutch though. I have a feeling it's not related though because it feels clunky in general in the rear, and it's the same only in first and second gear, and occasionally in reverse. Getting the drivetrain inspected next month, however. I'll post back and let you guys know what it ended up being :)

Any updates on this? I have similar play in my output, and get chattering that I think is from the drivetrain as well. I've not had a chance to pull the heat shield to look at the center support bearing yet.

The amount of play there is not bad.

Chalino started a thread about a problem like this in Feb. 2010. I have whatever Chalino has. Maybe you do too. I hope you figure it out.

you might have to take the transmission apart and look inside the bell housing could be your throw out bearing, input shaft .e.t.c... i have a minor rattle when in neutral but thats cause of my flywheel but my mechanic has mention it can be my input shaft as that can explain while my clutch pedal pulses very fast when im in 5th gear slowing down to down shift

Sorry i had not noticed an update on this post. i just put a new differential in and it didn't change much. That was not installed to try and fix anything though. I was installing an LSD differential.
So i bought a M3 transmission which is the ZF tranny instead of the Getrag. on the ground it has just as much play. i think i am just picky, because i hate the clunky rattling when clutching etc. all the noise comes from the rear end mainly because of the twisting play given to the diff from the tranny.
