-
Well, the main purpose of this club/forum was to get away from the douchebags on BFC. There's not a lot of love for 4-cyl's on there.
Keep us updated on your M42 project here! I'm in Socal for school, and I definitely want to check out your motor in person!
-
hey man, welcome... def. keep us updated on your work... I think we have at least 3 full rebuilds going on here right now, so any info you have would be appreciated.
I checked out yer thread on bf.C ...yer parts look good.
-
looks like a really nice build, you should bring the pics and stuff over here too for viewing pleasure ;)

wow that looks sweet man!
Im also in the process of rebuilding a motor.
How much is this stuff costin ya if you don't mind sharing?
-
around 3000 in total
-
I read the reply that was given in the bf. I am new here but can say is that the peole that seem to be there are all about there own and do not seem to care or help other bimmerphiles. All they want to do is compare theres to yours and "THRASH'' on your for doing something new. I have been a member for about a week now and these guys here have lots of knowledge and are more than willing to share it with you whenever they can. That is why this thread was started in my opinion. As it was said before there are alot of rebuilds going on here including myself so keep us updated. Have a god one

Only a pleasure, glad I have been able to help out the M42 community to give those i6 boys a run for their money...
I believe in sharing info which tuning shops try keep from us. That way you can build your own motors, learning and modding along the way. Plus the money you're saving in labour costs is being put into your motor, not someone's pocket.

I'm lifting a glass of Pinotage to you!

sounds like a meet! LOL.
This site is one of the best I have been on. If you are remotely interested in your car this is were you should be. I too have experienced sites where "flaming" is the norm and car maintence a no-no!
My sincere appreciation and thanks to the founders, admin and all the members for keeping this place focused on the car.:)

Hey and welcome to the club. I originally started up a little M42 club in a BF.c E30 section thread because some guys with E36's started one, but said no older/non-e36 M42's. In some respects I never expected it to turn out into much, but after a week or so I saw how many people were interested. A couple guys on here offered to set up the vBulletin forum so the club could have a real home, and well, here we are. This has turned out better than I (or probably any M42 enthusiast) could have hoped!
You have a neat looking build going on there. I will definitely be watching to see how it goes. As far as the MAF dealy, I am working on finishing up version 2.0 of it, using a MUCH better fitting sensor. Once my replacement wide-band O2 sensor arrives I can actually try to target the one trouble spot I am stuck with. Heck, it might just be a trouble spot because the WBO2 sensor crapped out & is throwing off the motronic.
Anyway welcome...I'll join the drinking when I get home from work today.
Oh and check out the M42 COP conversion thread. It is nice to rid yourself of the plug wires, cleans up the engine bay and provides negligible amounts of performance gain lol. Actually it does make the car run a lot better, but chances are that's because the plug wires in most cars are worn out...but this is cheaper than new wires.

The domain has been around for 1year, same as the club, but the forum is a little newer, probably 9 months.

We have no budget and I doubt they woul appreciate a competitor, even though we really are not one.
We do quite well, and experience has show slow steady growth leads to a strong long lasting website. We are doing quite well.

looks like a great build! That should make nice power. Who did the headwork? Do you have the flow specs? A before/after flow analysis would be useful.

Yes, great stuff here... :D

I've seen a lot of talk about fitting the S14 throttle bodies on the M42. But i'm pretty sure this is not possible, as the cylinderspacing is completely different. I think on the M4x engines the spacing is 91mm. I don't remember it on the S14 but the 2.5L version has a bore of 95mm this is bigger than the spacing on the M4x.
I think you would be better off using the Euro S50 M3 throttle bodies, I had a set of those that i wanted to adapt to the M42 engine a while ago. And they have the exact same cylinder spacing, the port size and shape is pretty much the same too. But i got my self some purpose built Dbilas instead. As i don't have access to cheap machining services.
-
M30,M10,S14 have 100mm bore spacing
M42,M44,M5x, S5x, M20 have 91mm bore spacing

Ireland engineering did head work, sorry no flow sheet.

Tim used S50 throttle bodies. Btw, I'm still waiting on a video of that car!
