I'm testing a cruise control switch. Lost my ETM somewhere, so I'll post my findings. My cruise control is only working on accel and cancel. I'm digging in right now and gathering some spares. First off, I'd like to thank Wagner & Sons in Harmony, PA for not scrapping the last e30 they have...I grabbed an entire M20 cruise control system & harness, near perfect HVAC panel, 13 button OBC. Nice shape, works well, not too rusty. I'd like to smite whoever got there first & snagged the mirror though.
I've noted that there can be four or five wires running into a switch stalk connector of four or seven pins, respectively. The earlier of the two is from an '87 325is. The later one is from an '89 'vert IIRC.
For the wide seven-pin connector, if you're looking into the switch connector shell, there are two missing pins then five installed. Those colors are (L to R):
1. Blue/Black stripe
2. Green/Blue stripe
3. Blue/Gray stripe
4. Brown/White stripe
5. Blue/Yellow stripe
1 & 4 are normally connected, except at 'off.'
2 connects to 1 & 4 on 'accel'
3 connects to 1 & 4 on 'resume'
5 connects to 1 & 4 on 'decel'
For the smaller (earlier?) four-pin connector, if you're looking into the switch connector shell, the wires should be:
1. Yellow
2. Green
3. Blue
4. Green/White stripe
1 & 4 are normally connected, except at 'off.' (up or down positions)
2 connects to 1 & 4 on 'const' (forward)
3 connects to 1 & 4 on 'resume' (back)
I can't figure out why up or down aren't different. Anyone?
If anyone has additions or corrections, let me know & I'll update this thread.
