Title: ITBs
Post by: gtatbrissy on August 20, 2010, 09:58:06 PM
I thought i would start a biuld thread for my itb set up.
im using 50mm itbs from an e36 m3. all iv done is pull the manifold off to trail fit the itbs and make a 'to do' list. i was thinking i will block of the heater hoses so i only have one pipe going from the block to the bottom of the radiator.
i need the modify the fuel rail because the return pipes hits on part of the tb
(http://i947.photobucket.com/albums/ad320/gtatbrissy/IMAG0025.jpg)
they are the main things, other little things like grinding the corners off the itbs should be pretty easy
(http://i947.photobucket.com/albums/ad320/gtatbrissy/IMAG0024.jpg)
so there is a little bit of work to do. any surguession/comments would be greatly apreciated.

I'm making some popcorn to see this happen...other than that, I'm most likely going to be useless.

I'd just bend the fuel rail nipples personally, but I'd recommend making a custom fuel rail.  The fittings are available out there on teh g00glez.

I've seen some beautiful ones in alu.  Alternatively, could you shorten the original M3 rail?

Also thinking about custom rails and secondaries injectors over trumpets. After some time spent with google I found only one source of rail prifiles http://www.rossmachineracing.com/

50mm for a 1.8 is rather large. You have to remember that those throats were sized for a larger engine. It would most likely harm low-mid range due to decrease in velocity of the intake air. Do the ports even match?

You cannot outright say if they are too big or too small without knowing how far they are located from intake valve. If the trottle is located right at the beginning of the intake trumpet it could be 70 mm and still be suitable because intake tract is usually tapered ie. getting smaller towards the intake valve. Altough in case of M42 and S50, they are located pretty much the same distance.

Port shapes and sizes match 99% :)

Your in Australia. You get around on any other forums? pm dsm2002 he had a set of E36M3 throttles modified to fit, was a simple matter of hacking the old lugs off and welding some new ones on, but looks like you know that :)

Will be interested to see what mods you have planned for after the ITB's :D

sorry a quick question, in one of your pics you are using the stock m42 fuel rail. Is it a direct fit? or is modification needed to make it fit?

No it isn't, you need to modify it heaps or track down a e36 one and shortern it. It wont fit with the vacuum rail
