Hi all, my name is Adam.
I just picked up my third e30 but this is my first m42 powered car, and it’s a blast!
The previous owner had done the Volvo 940 electric fan swap on the car but the low speed does not work. Also, so we’re on the same page, the auxiliary fan circuit is being used.
When I jumped the low speed to ground I could hear the relay clicking over but there was no fan operation. I read on here that the high speed is on the same circuit as the low speed so WITH THE LOW SPEED STILL JUMPED I then jumped the high speed and the fan turned on.
So I’m thinking the problem lies somewhere on the low speed circuit AFTER the relay? Is there a built in low speed resistor on these Volvo fans that the high speed bypasses?
What do you guys think?
Thanks!

It has been a little while since I debugged this on mine. The aux fan, if I recall correctly, only runs the high speed side of the circuit. For the stock wiring there is a low speed resistor on the driver's side near the headlights that is probably bad on many of these cars by now.

Did the PO switch to a 25 or 30 amp fuse? I want to say it was fuse #3, but I could be wrong. It's been a while, and there's a thunderstorm going on so I'm not running out to the garage because I know the second I step out there the power will go off :D
