Title: clutch issue

Tried to search couldnt really pinpoint an answer, so i just bought a 318is, with 140 on the clock and it drives great. However i notice when i depress the clutch pedal all the way there is a grinding noise and clutch pedal almost vibrates until i let up a little on it.

I know you dont need to depress it all the way to engage, just struck me as something wrong, also if you barely touch the clutch pedal (only push it down maybe an inch) it vibrates pretty significantly.

any ideas?

I'd guess the throw-out bearing but it could be that the clutch was installed without a centering tool.

is it a pain in the ass to replace the throwout bearing?

Depends on how much you like working on cars...but I'd say definitely.

You have to pull the transmission and the clutch to get at the clutch fork and throwout bearing.  To pull the tranny it's easier to drop the exhaust, heat shields and drive shaft as well.

I'd definitely try bleeding the clutch system first.  I'd suspect it isn't the clutch master or slave cylinder, but it can't hurt to have fresh fluid in the system.

It's right on the clutch slave going into the transmission.

instead of starting a new thread, ill just bump this one.......

so i put my e30 away for the winter and with the weather warming up I have started the preliminary steps in changing my clutch - jacked really high up to give myself kneeling room under there, exhaust removed, heat shields, driveshaft, once the ground starts to really dry up ill tackle the whole thing....

quick question, what should I change while I'm down there? I noticed pelican parts has a super kit, I figured I would get that whole thing plus the master/slave cylinders, as well as a new CSB and giubo.... anything else? thanks
