Hi, new to the forum and the car. Just picked up a 318is last night. I've wanted an E30 for about ten years, and I finally pulled the trigger.
My clutch engages all the way at the end of the pedal travel. I've done some searching and it sounds like it might be due to my clutch/flywheel needing to be replaced? I've driven many BMWs and none have had a clutch quite like this one...it feels like it's worn to me, but does grab just fine. Suggestions?
If it does need to be replaced, I see that two members here have the Metric Mechanic lightened steel flywheel, with the 228mm Sachs Sport Clutch. Where is the best place to buy one of these and how much should I expect to pay in parts/labor? I have some friends that run in NASA's SpecE30 class and they used to buy parts from bimmworld, but for some reason their site is down. Recommendations?
Thanks!

Sounds like your due for a clutch it should ingage the second you start lifting rather than at the end of the pedal travel, as for parts, i cant help you there im just running a stock sachs clutch.....works great, except when you sidestep the clutch with to many people in the ca:o .

Bleed the line first. A bit of air in a hydraulic system can cause the same thing. There's a bleed screw on the slave cylinder on the driver's side of the transmission.
Hey somebody. Is there a fluid resevoir on a 318is? Where? Does fluid leak inside the car if the master cylinder goes bad?

Oh i forgot about that.....ya bleed the system first. The clutch master shares a resivor with the brake master, there should be a blue hose (or black if it has been changed) coming out of the brake resivor and it goes through the firewall to the clutch master.

Thanks guys, will do

Yeah the resivoir is shared with the BMC's rear-brake half of the resivoir.
I have seen a pic or 2 of some yucky carpet from a totally blown CMC in the footwell. I do not even know how the guy let it get that bad though, ot be honest.
