I was wondering if anyone know the direction of coolant flow in the m42. Mostly I am wondering about the return line that goes to the overflow tank. I am wondering if I can plug that. I am installing a m42 in a 67 BMW and I would like to use the stock radiator, but it doesn't not use a overflow tank. So I need to find a spot to "put" the return hose. Can it be plugged or can it go to a T on the top radiator hose?

I'm not sure on the answer to your question, but when you get it done I'm sure a lot of us would like to see pics of the finished job! (unless of course you've already posted them somewhere else on this site)

On any car the lower hose is the radiator exit and the upper hose is the radiator inlet.

Does anyone know if the coolant pipe that goes along the drivers side block is just a return? Or does all the coolant return to the radiator through that pipe to the overflow tank?
Mostly I am wondering if I can just plug that hose (that normally goes to the tank) and all will still work. Otherwise I will T it back into the upper rad line.

why not take the stock M42 radiator and stuff and put it in?

It is a little too big to fit in the chassis that I am doing this swap on. I have a 2002 with a m42 as well and the m42 rad fits fine but not in this car.
Also I really would like to keep the stock radiator, it keeps things looking more 'stock'

any one?
one person on r3v said it was the main feed to the water pump...if that is true I need it hooked up. Can I hook it too the top rad hose, or lower?

here is a pic of the swap

It's looking pretty neat and tidy so-far.
Could you take one or two closeup pics of the bracket on the driver side that you have the fuses and (diagnostic?) plugs on? Looks good.
