Well I am thinking about rebuilding an m42 for my e30. Problem is it is a dd so it can't be off the road for long.
So I am contimplating a second hand motor, which brings me to wanting the e36 m42, for the knock sensor mostly and DASC upgrade down the track.
I want to know if the e36 m42 long block would be a strait swap. So using e30 mainfolds and wiring harness ect, just swaping the blocks? Also I have resurched this but I can't seem to find if anyone has done a plan swap.
Obviously the knock sensor wont connect to the e30 ecu, but that is ok as MS will also be added down the track.
If it is not could you please elabourate on what would have to be done.
Cheers Massimo

I'd think they fit, but frankly I have no idea.
+1 on the research, I couldn't find anything 100% on it.

I have an M44 in my E30.
Requires the E30 sump and flywheel. You can leave the serpentine belt setup on the front and use the E36 alternator and PAS pump, does require a little modification to the pipes.
This still uses the E30 ECU rather than the E36 item and E30 head.
