Im pretty new here, living in sweden so my english is not that good :rolleyes:
This is a great forum! Im pretty new to the M42, but i know the M20 inside out :)

I have a E30 M20 turbo putting out pretty good power but recently started building a E30 M42 turbo with a friend, and then when we already was in the garage i picked up a complete M42 from a E36 and a complete but taken apart E30 M42 engine and started swaping the E36 motor in my winter-drifting car, 318i M40.

So we have our hands full at th moment, the 318is turbo is gonna be dynoed in a few weeks and has some small work left, IC piping, exhaust, oil feed to turbo and some other small things. More info on this car soon!

I started the 318 M42 swap yesterday efter some electrical work and everything seems to be working, so now its time to build exhaust and fix the drive shaft and then test it on the road :)

I used a -93 E36 M42 engine complete with ECU, harness, gearbox with clutch cylinder etc, M40 mounts and brackets. My rive shaft seems to be like 1cm too long though so ill have to to something about that, ill be back on that one.

The E30 M20 6 speed turbo is pretty much turn key from last year, just made some small mods and gonna check it out in the dyno soon as well.

Great work man! Some info on the setup would be much apreciated. Which turbo did you use? What is the size of the IC, pipes size, exhaust size, soft?

Mitsubishi EVO8 turbo
Home made puls split manifold
630cc injectors
MS ECU with stock coils
600x300x102mm intercooler
Bosch BOV
3" intercooler pipes
3" exhaust
ARP head bolts
O-ring block
M50 non vanos rods for lower comp
M20 flywheel with sinter clutch and 325 E30 pressure plate

Right know im building the ic pipes, exhaust and oil feed to the turbo :)

I love the fact that you posted the E30 vs the Viper and then the turbo E30 vs E30 V10...you get a pretty good idea of just how quick the V10 E30 is!!

But i works really great below 6000rpm or so! Pretty fun :)

Fine tuned my M20 turbo at the same time and the old 2 valve is now putting out 770hp :D

Nice! :) I want 300whp atleast with this setup! New turbo and dp + check the cams should do the trick!

I have a T3/T4@0.6bar and I have boost in the upper range (2nd gear from 4500, 3rd from 4000, etc.). Redline is 6800rpm.

I fixed the 6000rpm issue today, so now it goes all the way to 7000 rpm :)

WOW! How on earth did you manage that? How hard was it to integrate the haltech? Completely stock?!?!?!?!

With very good fine tuning and lots of patience. :)
It was a bit tricky until I managed to get wiring done. After that a friend did the proper maps.
Now I'm runing 0.6bar / 0.87 PSI. I think I can go 0.8bar / 11.6 PSI. :D

The E30 with E36 M42 is going strong on the snow now! Works like a charm :) I swaped the 168 4.10 diff for a 188 3.73, stronger and works a little better with 1:1 on 5th gear, 200km/h @ revlimiter on 5th gear ~6800rpm. Good enough on the snow :)

Shure ~1600 EUR or 2100 USD. (without the clutch/flywheel/starter, radiator, intercooler and gauges)

Yes, big power is nice :) Im building a M50 to go in the M20 powered E30 as well :D

The turbo and manifold from the M42 turbo is up for sale by the new owner btw, he wants a bigger turbo :cool:
