I have a 1991 318is.
Bought some OEM factory iS skirts to mount to my car ( total of 4 pieces) However I cant particularly mount them how they were made to be from the factory. Pinch welds are gone beyond belief and I'm wondering.
Is there suggestion and ways people have mounted them.
I was thinking double sided tape. screws on the ends?
any input is appreciated.....

Hi Matt
I'm a newbie here and to e30.
Wtihout seeing any pics of the skirt, I imagine part of the skirt has to mount to the pinch welds (the standing seam) along the bottom of the rocker panel. Correct?
At the corresponding attachment points for which the skirt is to be attached, you can fabricate metal tabs and screw or JB weld it to the body. Placement of the tab will be behind pinch weld on the opposite side of the skirt. In other words, in a section view, the pinch weld will be sandwich in between the tab and the skirt.
If you are screwing it on, besure to add RTV/silicone sealant between the body and the tab
Materials for the metal tabs can be made from thin gauge flat aluminum bars from a hardware store.
Hope this helps and please post project pics. TIA!

Matt,
I purchased the clamps, clips, and bushings from Tischer ... They are fairly cheap, so I'll be using those to put mine on. My paint should be done next week, so I might take some pictures on the install and post as a link. It just might be able to help someone for once versus DesktopDave bailing me out which is what normally happens.
Lemme know if you haven't installed yours yet and I'll email you the part numbers that I used (from RealOEM).

LOL!! Thanks for the compliment...but I'm only slightly less confused most times!
If those pinch welds are rusting along the bottom of the frame rails I'd be all over it. That's a structural member made from pretty thin steel...not a good place for the tinworm...hard to get at too.

Dave, i hate the tin worm :(

so how did you guys end up mounting them? I am just thinking of buying them new from pelican, at about $100 per side. I need to know what else I need to buy, besides the 2 skirt pieces
