Guess i need one of these too seeing as how I'm new.
Don't have too many pictures, but probably take more this summer. These were taking by fellow enthusiasts from maxbimmer at one of the GTA meet ups.
this is my 3rd E30. and third 318i. First was a white 1984 2 door. belonged to my grandfather then my brother wrecked it. next was a bronzitbeige 1991 4 door, which i then painted dakar yellow (i'll put some of those up later). This one was sterling silver, i then painted it this VW yellow because i really liked it. i like loud colours.
first couple were right after getting it painted.

since then, the foglights were added, smoked side markers and an M Tech II spoiler. i know it rides high, i plan on fixing that this summer along with some other various upgrades externally and internally
Not a good spoiler pic but i like it for my little buddy

Looks awesome, I like the wheels too, just needs a drop then it will be sexxxxxy. Thank you!
-
thanks,
yeah i wanted to do it last year but i didn't have the money. now that i've just finished school and started full time work i'll have some play money for the car now.
-
hey, Ryan. 4D's unite.
-
How much was paint? I really want a yellow 'is, and mine is getting paint soon...
-
i got the job done for just under 1400 but the guy wasn't very good, i'm going to have to do a bunch of touchups myself.
if i ever get a car painted i'm doing it myself.
-
Love the color of the car. Thumbs up.
-
Needs a bit more of lowering, and i dont really like the Italian rims. :P They look cheapish. :P Other than that - nice car.

My car has sat in my garage for the last 2 years. My previous job had me travelling all over the place so i was never home and could never work on it.
I've moved to eastpointe MI 7 months ago and have a huge 2.5 car garage and huge driveway, so naturally the garage is going to be a workshop. My parents want their garage back so i've been working on getting the e30 running when i visit on weekends. This past weekend i replaced all the hard lines and rubber lines (with SS Braided, ECS has them on sale). After replacing the tensioner and adding some fuel stabilizer, the car runs, and after doing the brakes, it stops.
I'm going to try and get it insured this week so i can get a temp plate sticker so i can bring it down here. Going to more or less try and go all out over the winter to do as much replacing and repairing i can to get it ready for the spring. Luckily this time around it'll last longer because it'll no longer be a daily driver, it'll be a summer toy.
Also going to be looking into changing colours. Leaning towards british racing green, something more subtle than HEY EVERYBODY I'M YELLOW COME PULL ME OVER
Those 17's are gone, i've got a really nice set of basketweaves that i'm going to polish up and do the centres gold. Discount tire mounted Falken ze512's on them for $250 all in.
(not my pic) (http://www.classicjazzcorner.com/images/2006_09_15_BBS_Wheels_01.JPG)
hoping they'll look nice like this
once i get the vehicle down here, i'm going to try and properly document what i do, as i'm sure i'll also have questions along the way.
Coming alive

There was so much smoke while it idled for a while, but it didn't smell.

I've spent the last year doing things to my mazda 3's. time to back burner those and get back into this... i can't wait

I really like the wheels. I'm in Royal Oak, so not too far, when it's nice again we'll have to find the local e30 guys and get together, my car is in slumber for the next 6 months.
-
I really like that yellow. Bet you're right that it's the 'come hither, pull me over' color. :P
Thanks for the tip on the brake line sale from ECS - $75 shipped! That's less than new OEM front lines. I just noted that my front flex lines were cracking/wasted. Brake lines, unlike wine, do not improve with age.
-
apparently Tapatalk is hit or miss if it wants to post after i hit send.
I like the yellow too. Maybe in the future, if i'm allowed to have multiples, i'll make another yellow one.
Nick,
i'm surprised with how many e30's i've seen here, especially since it's so uncommon seeing imports in general given the motor city... I'm totally up for a get together. I will also provide beer for help should i need any ::)
brakes went nice, but the one caliper is giving me issues. i took the bleeder right out and nothing is coming through. It's coming out the line going into the caliper, so it's clear that the caliper is clogged or something. I spent $22 to get the repair kits for all 4 wheels, so i'll hope that helps the bad one, refreshes the others and while i'm at it, i'll clean and dress up the calipers. are red calipers too christmas-y for a green car? maybe i'll just do black or gold

Gas tank came in. $148 shipped from advance auto. Was going to patch thinking they'd be more expensive but figured may as well replace

Isn't he a little young to install a gas tank? I guess it'd be light enough if it's empty...
;D
-
no sooner had i posted that, he decided to throw 5 little toys into it. The fuel pump hole is too small for my hand so i was shaking it upside down like a pick stuck in a guitar... obviously he thought it was the funniest thing in the world.
Parents drove my bumblebee to my grandparents in London, ON (halfway between detroit and toronto) and said it ran really nicely and brakes were good (save that one stuck caliper) i think they were impressed with how it was doing, because my mom has been bugging me to cut my losses and get rid of it for years and she thought it ran well too.
Question regarding the fuel tank
http://www.ecstuning.com/Search/SiteSearch/16111177925/ES35757/
$40 is quite a lot for this small metal line. Can i just get a fuel line and bend it the same?
-
just picked up a pair of e36 seats for $150
they're local so thats awesome.
I would have preferred e30 but they're so expensive, and with mine being so broken, they'll do for now. if they're as good in person as they look in the pictures, i'm sure i'll have no problem selling them
-
I wish it would get warmer so i can get to work, but this shit storm of snow and wind has been brutal.
My shop press showed up from HF. Hoping to assemble that tomorrow, maybe even start taking some stuff apart.
Did a bit more shopping. Picked up some front hub assemblies, a steering wheel and a new fuel pump.
the whole assembly was quite expensive but i saw some people retrofit a universal one from like pepboys for about $70. I went on ebay and ended up buying this. Can't go wrong for $53
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/231081426820?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649
it arrived today and looks perfect. the entire assembly and pump. I'm going to throw it in my new tank sitting in the corner tomorrow to make sure it goes in nicely. I'm happy because i didn't' like that an old rusty, cruddy looking hanger was going in my spiffy new tank with spiffy new lines.
quick query about that... the little metal hose that goes between the saddles of the fuel tank. They're about $90 shipped (http://www.ecstuning.com/Search/SiteSearch/16111177925/ES35757/) which i think is ridiculous. I should be able to just go to autozone and just pick up an $6 5/16" brake line and bend that into place right?
like this? http://www.autozone.com/autozone/parts/AGS-Poly-Armour-Brake-Line/1991-BMW-318I/_/N-itbspZ8kp1m?itemIdentifier=216341_148248_3048_21814%2C90077
or would the nickel copper be better
-
Good deal on the fuel pump there. I'll keep that in mind.
I'd replace the s-bend pipe with something meant for fuel, since it's such a "I never what to do this job again" part. I'd assume you could bend any steel line, as long as the fittings match. There are many different types of threaded fittings, I'm not sure which one BMW used on those tank bungs.
-
I'm definitely going to try and pull the old one off to make sure everything of the ends and verify inner diameter, since i can't find any information on the side of the fuel line. I just can't justify paying that much more than someone i could my self for practically nothing
