Title: timing case water pump thermostat done but...
Post by: mmkale on April 19, 2010, 03:00:43 PM
much improved noise, vibration, harshness. temp gauge reading 3/4 of scale. thermostat is wahler pn 11 53 7 511 580. also on box is 4236.88D. guessing the 88D is 88 degree C. the old one was an Aeolus-Thompson (made in China)  176 degree F., which kept the temp needle approximately center of gauge. if i remember correctly 9/5x88+32 converts C to F, which makes the new thermostat 190.4 F., so could the new thermostat temperature make the gauge  read 3/4 scale? assuming math and installation are correct. this my first post but i've been a member for a couple of years, since i bought my 318is. most everything i know about my car came from this site. thanks.

I have the same thermostat in my car and my gauge is at half or a little over when I turn on the ac,a little under when the heat is on.Make sure you have bled the system correctly.
Title: I think

I think I bled it correctly. Filled with coolant. Let it heat up. Opened bleed screw on top of radiator. No more bubbles. Close bleed thingy. Top off to fill line. Drive. Check level on return. Opened bleed screw again. Nothing but $20 bmw coolant and distilled water. By the way, I would've changed the motor mounts but couldn't get at upper nuts. Any tricks?

long extension(s) snaked thru the mc booster/ intake mess for drivers side.

pass side is alot easier but header might get in the way... still need an extension.

don't overtighten these nuts, top or bottom of subframe or you can overstress the mount and kill it prematurely.
