Originally I wanted to build a 2.0 stroker M42, but I had to pull back my budget a bit. I started thinking turbo, but now I’m leaning towards a supercharger for a more progressive power delivery, more like an N/A tune.
I see from here that a few people (and downing Atlanta) have done the Eaton M45 and M62 conversions. I've read through both of Appletrees builds with great interest and respect.
At the moment I thinking about an intercooled M62 setup running on megasquirt with completely stock engine and compression ratio.
Could I run the M62 to its rpm limit on a stock engine?
What sort of torque and bhp figures could I expect from this setup?
How much could be gained from lowering the compression ratio of the motor? Either head gasket and bolts or stretching my budget some more, pistons?
There are a few different figures floating around but some people reckon the M42 is capable of 300bhp boosted in stock form ?? That sounds quite optimistic without at least lowering the compression ratio?

How much boost would an M62 be making at max revs?
torque/bhp depend on boost, but I would go off appletree's thread for a estimate. You won't gain anything from lowering the compression, apart from the ability to run more boost. Then you will make more power.
I am one of the 300bhp on stock engine crowd. But you need a good headgasket and bolts/studs to do it reliably. Then the only issue is having a good tune, which you will get with some dyno time and the MS. I'm going to run E85 as an extra safe guard.

Thanks Chris.
I've just been having a read through some of your threads. Have you run the engine at 300bhp yet?
I think getting to that figure from an Eaton SC may be pushing it a bit. I'd definitely consider turbocharging as an alternative due to it being easier to install in the first place and easier to upgrade in the future.
Chris.

As you will notice my threads consistently havent made it to the end yet :) turbo is in the corner for a while. Having some fun using the car and I'll get back to it. I'm hoping to be turbo'd over the mid season break but it may end up being an end of year project.
The turbo I have will probably just make it to 300bhp. We'll see though
