Should I even bother making an intake? I would build a heat shield and all that jazz ... just wondering if it really does anything on a m42 since we have the flap AFM?

i heard it was pointless....but when i originally bought the car it had a sad lookin short CAI and i drove it for a good bit that way till i got use to the power output, then i switched it out and put on a CLEAN easy breathing on (they were both cone shape) it the diff in the top in was brand new so i dont know if its true or am just trippin cause i was lookin for the change in it but hey am no expert

My car had a nice K&N setup on it when I bought the it. I've gone back to the stock box, then back to the CAI a few times. I did not perceive any change ever. I didn't have a heat shield though...

How much louder was the CAI on these cars?
Only car I've ever had an aftermarket intake on was a Subaru with a short ram, but then again that had a MAP sensor and the throttle body faces the firewall so it sounded like thunder under acceleration. :D

mine is piped thru the grill. 4in turbo bellmouth to 3in flex pipe. my filter is inside a length of 6in pvc pipe wrapped in header tape. my clutch fan has been deleted and my intake is crossed over to the passenger side. more room over there.

Torque, I just ran a driver side high beam delete with tubing up to that point. Some guys will insert the velocity stack into the headlight housing as well.
I suggest an used set of S52B30 ITB's. I just picked up a set for $140 shipped from the UK.
