Title: differences in e30 M42 engines?
Post by: ///Motorsport on August 16, 2006, 07:21:16 PM
i always thought there was a slight difference in the ouput ratings of the 318is and the other 1991 318 models.  was there some sort of tuning difference?  i could have sworn i read it somewhere here..

For the US, no difference. The engines, drivetrain etc are identical. The only major difference is one year of the convertible with automatic transmission had a 4.27 lsd.

What rear do most 91 318iS's have? If I'm not mistaken I had an S4.10, or 4.10 LSD..

AFAIK, 4.10 was standard while the 4.10 LSD was an option.

Moto, I saw that discussion over on another forum where some guy was ripping you a new one.  Not a nice guy.  So you had wrong info.
People take themselves WAY too seriously online.  Geeesh!

I'm guessing it's not a limited slip rear end.  Thinking ahead for future upgrades

some have lsd, it was an option. standard on 325is. mine has open, getting a lsd within the month!

yeha, jordan was ripping me a new one. he's been banned a bunch and just trolls looking to spread his 'infinete' e30 knowledge without mercy.

Automatic transmissions were never offered on US spec M42 powered E30's, although you are correct about the 4.27lsd being available on some convertibles.
