I have a 1991 318i Convertible. I removed all the torx bolts and the #7 bolt
and the transmission still won't come off. any suggestions?

Auto or manual (I'm guessing the stick)? I'm assuming you pulled the starter. Might just be twenty years of crap...or the maybe the clutch is hanging on the pilot bearing?
-
+1 one on the starter, the bolts are not pictured in you diagram. they are the two holes to the right (in the picture) #8, to the left if you are looking at the tranny from the back.
also, dunno you experience, but discon the battery before touching the starter.

It's a manual, got the starter off. I pulled the transmission out about a week ago and came out fine and the put in a new clutch. The car started acting up, when i pushed the clutch in, made a grinding loud grinding noise, and if i pushed the clutch all the way in to put it in gear, the noise would get louder then the car would eventually turn off.

Wonder if the slave cylinder is on the way out. They don't last forever, 100K miles or less. Did you do a whole kit, new TOB, etc? Maybe that plastic fork pivot broke?
-
yes.i did the whole clutch super kit from pelican parts.
-
its been about 4 hours still can't get the transmission off, rechecked to see any bolts were still on. all of them are off....
-
I have never had a tranny come off the back of an m42 easily, I normally use a combination of pry bars and dead blow hammers
-
.
-
how exactly did you used the pry bars and hammers to take off the tranny? thanks for the suggestions, keep them coming.
-
Have a look on the bellhousing there should be a flywheel ring gear inspection opening. Remove the plug, then wedge the pry bar in between the block backing plate and the bellhousing or anywhere along the bellhousing. Start with a flat blade screwdriver and once the gap gets bigger insert the pry bar.
Also have an assistant help you. Get them holding the gearbox extension housing (where the output shaft is) and rock the transmission left and right, up & down (trying not to break anything).
When you fitted the transmission did you put any type of lubricate on the clutch fork pivot points and the input shaft splines? I always put high temp copper grease.
-
Alright, i will try that, i put white lithium grease on the fork pivot points and the input shaft splines...What do you mean by plug?
-
I think he meant the inspection cover.
-
Did you unbolt the tranny mount bolts at the back? If they are locked into the slide that they sit it, it won't move.
-
im pretty sure i did, how many bolts at the back?
-
well, you have the driveshaft bolts at the guibo and then there is a mount with bushings at the back of the tranny. there is a pair of nut/bolt assembly that fit into a channeled notch on either side
So basically, unbolt the tranny and starter, disco the guibo, and loosen the bolts in the channel and slide back the tranny. if need be, use a pry bar at the bellhousing to pull the tranny off the block.
