I just got done using a flex hone on my cylinders to prep them for the new rings.

Thoughts on the outcome?
Also, somebody was looking at the block at the house and said I was missing a ring "step" at the top of the cylinder. I wasn't sure what he was referring to. Can anyone enlighten me?
Anyhow, on to the pics...

The score right at 3 o'clock is the one that I was hoping the flex hone would clean up. I can BARELY feel it with a very gentle touch. Should I just have it honed at a machine shop now? Would I need oversized rings in that one?

ken if that scratch will catch a finger nail(around 10 thousands) id take it to a machine shop and have them clean the walls up.
-
Like 4Banger said, if you can feel it, to the machine shop it goes.
-
ken. that "step" your friend speaks of is a ring ridge. that is wear. if you dont have a ring ridge thats a good thing. again anything that catches a nail needs a ride on the boreing bar.

It's at the machine shop now. They have a honing machine that is CNC controlled and can actually sense any taper as it hones and will correct it on the fly. Apparently it's one of two on the west coast.
They're going to install my new rings and bearings too.

cool beans. let us know how it turns out.

Hey Ken,Was this engine run with a K& N air filrt??
TIA. MM
-
No, stock box.
Injector stuck open.

Good call on taking it to the shop, Those vertical bore scratches will raise hell with oil consumption. Did you use a ridge reemer or did it just not have a ridge at the top of the cylinder.?
