Title: megasquirt TPS
Post by: gearheadE30 on January 24, 2010, 10:58:29 AM
I'm in the process of installing megasquirt on my car in anticipation of going turbo in the near future. Since Megasquirt requires a potentiometer TPS and on our cars, to the best of my knowledge, they only signal WOT, what are you guys using for a TPS?

I heard an e36 OBDII (M44?) unit fits right up.

Are you totally sure the M42 isn't a full pot?  I thought the M10/M20 had the earlier WOT TPS, not the M42.  Double check, you might not need to replace anything at all.

I don't know about the e30 m42 TPS, but the one in e36 is a full range, not just wot.

i'm pretty sure the e30 m42 unit is also a potentiometer; my alpha-N required an input from it and a binary/on-off value wouldn't be of much use if you're using TPS to substitute for an AFM.

The M42 is a pot. I've ohm'd mine out, there is a test procedure for it out there somewhere.

Okay, sweet. I wasn't entirely sure, and I just sold my spare so I didn't have one lying around to test. That's one less thing to buy haha

Are you using a pre-built Megasquirt or are you building it yourself? I'd love to hear more details about it

This is going to be as budget a project as possible without skimping too much, so it will be a homebuilt Megasquirt II v3. I'll be posting more details about it all later once I actually start tuning and such, but the plan is to run about 7.5 psi on stock internals on an e30 M42. My engine is in amazing condition for the age, so I want to basically leave it as it is as much as possible.

hey the E30 m42 tps is the same as M42 and M44 E36, full pot, 0-5v signal.
They have the same part #, and they output the same voltage, same connector ecc.

I exchanged them and they are the same part.

they all use it:
