Title: stomp test, 1215?
Post by: superj on January 10, 2010, 12:28:16 PM
getting ready to head out but thought i would throw this up.  i did the stomp and count test and i think it was reading 1-2-1-5 and hten it would hold for a second and repeat.  i am going to google what hte codes are but if someone happens to know,  that would be great

1215 is an AFM problem.  Check the connector...mine was shorted with water...I pulled out the BMW resistor pack extension & tossed it.  Cleared up the code right away.

Might be a sticky flapper, or a bad temp sensor too.  There are testing directions in the ETM & Bentley IIRC.

don't know what it was.  it started running fine now.  the wife thinks it was the gas that was in it since this is just a weekend car (well,  was till the engine in her jeep went bye bye)

i pulled all the plugs for anything and sprayed them out with wd-40 and also ran with the icv unhooked for about a day.  it got rid of the hunting idle but raised it up to 1200.  once i noticed the car was running without bucking anymore,  i plugged hte icv back in and the car has been great ever since.

i think next time it happens,  i will try unhooking the battery for a while and see if it does it again and then checking the codes so i get it fresh

Might be that the WD40 cleaned the contacts or drove out the water.  Glad to hear your troubles are solved!

I use contact cleaner instead of WD40 though.  Less residue and better cleaning, even good for computers & other electronics.  You can get a spray can at Radio Shack for a few bucks.  Don't get too much on your hands, it has a mild acid to etch corrosion off copper, tin & gold.

Do you still have the code for that?  I have a 2.2 unit that I was thinking of wiring up...on a 325i that I just bought!

the maps for the megasquirt?  no,  i could never get it to run,  i'm not computer literate enough or something.  it bench tested perfect but when it came to running i couldn't get it figured out.

i got all my info from one of the guys on e30tech.com.  he sent me a map and helped with everything.  e30tech is the megasquirt for e30s headquarters.

i might have the proper tps though,  for the 325i.  i had a few real varible tps from other model bmws,  not the on/off like the 325i comes with

I heard that MS 2.2 couldn't run the BMW IAC without some special wiring or a daurghter card of some sort.  I've read some of the directions & wikis out there, seems pretty involved.  Eliminating the AFM is a big step, too bad the IAC cant go too.

Which BMWs have a variable?  The 325i seems to have a bad one anyway...just ran it today and it was doing the famous M20 wandering idle.

you do have to either run a daughter card or no iac and just set the throttle screw out a bit for idle speed.

you can get anyone from an m30 3.5 that is newer then.......... i cannot remember.  i had one from an early 903 735,  one from a 90s 535 and one from something else.  they are hear somewhere
