Just curious to see what kind of oil and gas (87,91,93) are the m42 drivers using in their car.
What's your brand and viscosity number? Synthetic or Normal? Reason why you use that brand would be great too.
-
Usually I fill up with 91 US octane. I have used 87 in a pinch, didn't seem to make much difference. I'd avoid driving hard with it though, no knock sensing in the e30.
I use Wally World Mobil1 or Castrol Syntec 5w30 & 15w50. I'll be switching to full synthetic RedLine products in the spring. Royal Purple or Amsoil might be a good choice too, haven't tried them yet (too many conflicting reviews).
The synthetics are expensive stuff, but worth it AFAIC.

Sperm whale oil.

chevron premium octane, cause im chipped, ported/polished copped big injectors but before that, and in a pinch, ive rrun regular. around here , running 91 or higher costs me about a buck more a tank,
oils, mixed, running dino in the m42, but redline in the tranny and diff' I do change engine oil and filter often, the typical 3k or less, so I beleive I am changing before viscosity starts to break down and run weights as they relate to temp and use
on old motorcycles my experience is you switch to full synthetic, the seals tend to give out, why. because dino oil keeps some of them swelled, the syns dont
this has been true on my old bmw motorcycle, a frineds old honda bike, adn my sons old triumph bike. if they do , they get switched back to dino, and leak is gone
cant imagine it being much different in a car that has 160k on them
but the tranny and diff are not leaking

Royal Purple 10-40 in the engine
Redline ATF in the tranny (will be going to Royal Purple Syncromesh next time)
Redline Heavy Duty Shock Proof in the rear end
Highest octane I can buy (usually 91 or 92, occasionally 100)
-
Chevron 91...sometimes Shell
Whatever 10-40 conventional oil is on sale
-
93 octane on my mild tune, 110 on the radical tune (doesn't get used very often)
Mobile 1 or Royal Purple 10-30, Royal Purple Syncromax, Royal Purple 75-90, ATE super blue

Castrol 20W50. 93 oct. Castrol MTL and 75W90. As for the brakes, Castrol GT LMA. and my coolant is Prestone 50/50.

Oh yeah, forgot about the other fluids...I'm trying out Dex-Cool at a 30/70 mix. I think it's the Zerex version. Brakes are Ate Super Blue.
And the car opted to drain its power steering fluid.

Do not use dexcool!
