Hey some one let me know if they have had this problem.
Today while driving home from work.
1. Came to a stop
2. While proceeding the car began to surge.
3. Came to another stop, and repeated from take off.
4. Under investigation I noticed that the short vacuum hose from the Valve cover to the ICV is under extreme suction. Collapsed in other words.
5. I gather this is an ICV issue.
I am just looking for some confirmation. Thanks for the help.
-
clean your icv i had a same problem on my first 325i and cleaning it fixed the problem
-
Megasquirt it to solve all problems.
Just kidding. Sounds like an old hose and/or a sticky ICV.
-
I would say the hose has gone soft with age:eek:
-
I had replaced the hoses and yeah there a bit bigger than OE. Yes they are a bit softer too, so I am cleaning it now and gonna try before it gets to cold and dark. Thanks for the help.
-
Well, I cleaned it. Nope it didn't help. Looks like I am gonna half to buy one. Just when I need my car too. Well thankfully I have a Harley, but I hate the cold weather. So the ride into drill is gonna suck. Thanks guys.

cut the hose where it collapses and put a plastic vacuum "splice" piece in there from any FLAPS help section. You'll never have to worry about your ummm...hose going soft again.

Ok. Just put in the new ICV. And the car doesn't want to idle. So...since its dark and I don't have a garage. I will continue with my troubleshooting tomorrow. I didn't hear the fuel pump purge, and when the car was kinda intermittently idling, I tapped on the fuel filter and that sort made the engine run a bit smoother. My thoughts are this.
1. Make sure the oxygen heater relay and fuel pump relay are in good standing.
2. Make sure the fuel filter is in good standing.
3. Check the oxygen sensor as well.
4 Make sure all my hoses are tight and have no leaks or cracks.
You know I have a bit of a gripe to add as well.
I live in an apartment complex so...of course there are a couple of ShadeTree mechanics like "ourselves" (no offense if you are an actual BMW or car mech). Well my story goes like this.
Zack ... Kid lives across the way comes over with his ugly fuckin mutt of a dog. He's one of this kids that thinks just because he went to MMI or Wyotech that he can work on Jap cars and Our beloved German pieces of Awesome machinery.
Talking some big game about how he works at a used car lot as a mech, and how the lot owner made him the lead mech (Probably the only one there) has the audacity to tell ME! whats wrong with my little Natascha.
So I proceeded to tell Him, "Dude your are all in My Kool-aid and none of the sugar! After I replaced the ICV, He spouts off with "I can tell you why its not running". "Hey Fuck-ass!" I said.
(I have already figured it out by then)
...You have no FUCKING! idea whats wrong with my car. I don't see you out here with OBD-1 scanning and troubleshooting equipment".
"You are such a fuckin moron. Just because you went to some Bike mech school you think you have the right to work on auto's and such. I bet you have no business license...let alone the fact that your working on cars and probably fucking them up in the process..." "Creating road hazards daily"..
His girl stroles over and ask how I am doing? She was a sexy little brunette not to long ago...Now she's fat and slow just like her fuckin paper thin weakling of a boyfriend.
He mouths of about how he can fix my car to her when HIS P O S has been sitting in the same spot for like 6 months now. He says its "something to do with the performance computer that Nissan installed..Its all this JDM stuff. I got....blah! blah! blah!.
Well sorry about the Bullshit. I know some of you go through that as well...If not I guess I am privledged. Thanks for any help. Tony.

I try to save as many cars as possible from kids like your 'mechanic' neighbor...just picked up two more this week. Anyone need parts from a trashed '90 325i? Rolled lightly down a hill?
-
Ha. I appreciate the humor. Lightly down a hill huh?
Another one for ya.
He tried to sell me an old fan.. and I mean old. Like 50's possible 60's fan. For an A/C unit. He said he hooked it up to the intake on his car and its "like a turbo".
He tried to get me to put it on my car.
What a retard.

I've seen those...electric turbochargers...or leaf blowers, you pick the name.
"made entirely of aircraft grade aluminum-titanium alloy."
"The blades spin freely and smoothly its shaft being supported by a space grade zero friction ball bearing."
Just install this bit of plastic junk inside your intake & don't call us when it disintegrates.
Fail...but the video is worth watching...

Suit yourself quinn ;)

True..I have seen all the Informercials.
The Turbonator. Some city in California put it in their fleet of vehicles and it improved gas mileage by like a whopping 2% on the lowest scale possible.
I am not driving spirited for fuel economy. Yeah I get great mileage but I dog the shit out of my car every time I get in her..
Well back to the daily grind..I have to figure out what else is wrong with her.
-
Ok. I have an update.
Every thing is back in its place. ICV...Fuel pump relay..so on so forth.
I go to start the car and no Purge.. no sound is coming from the pump.
I remove the pump and test it outside by using jumper leads. It runs.
I replace the Fuel Pump relay with another relay in the fuse box. It must be that there is not the right resistance or something with the replacement.
So I use a jump lead to make the pump run constantly. This works.
It tells me that my relay is dead. So out to buy one.
I will keep you all posted.
-
Update.
Went to purchase the relay, about $160. I found one for about $12 at advance auto. Didn't buy either. So its another week on the Harley.

$160 for a relay? WTF

I thought the cheap Bosch relays all had the same pattern? Some of the hits I get suggest diodes are installed in the FP relay. I always carry spare FP & main relays in the glove box.
Are you sure the crank pos sensor is working? Test the resistance on that plug & see if it's 'round 650 ohms. If the CPS is bad it won't trigger the FP relay. You might have a good one there. Pelican sells those relays for like $15, don't they? Not listed on their site, but I'm sure they'd mail one if you called. BavAuto has them too, $8-$10 each.
