Title: new plugs+leads = sad motor; help plz
Post by: Berlin on August 11, 2006, 04:28:18 AM
hey

i just put in new spark plug wires from bma, along with NGK iridiums (BKR6EIX 6418) and tried to start her up........started just barely and then had the angriest idle ive ever heard (and i have wicked warm start issues) like it was on 3 cylinders or something... check engine light on and everything, wtf! tryin to give her some gas she just doesnt rev up and dies...

troubleshoot: used the old leads, same deal. new leads, old plugs, better, but check engine light still on and still very very rough idle

does the m42 hate on iridiums or something, i looked on their gap application guide they didnt have the m42 but for thet m44 it said "preset" so i didnt touch it. gah the fregin things cost like 40 bucks

did i do somethin wrong?? sigh, i gotta limp it home somehow now ):

Double check to see if you have two of the leads swapped (not going to the right cylinders). This would cause the bad idle.

make sure everything is properly seated  ...getting the plug wires squarely on tight can sometimes be harder than it looks ...for me anyway...

ya i had the leads going to the right places... i mean, they are numbered and different length, its hard to screw that up

anyway with the new wires and old plugs... after some horrible hesitation and a jerk halfway on the drive home the engine light went off and the power almost doubled, then it pulled like new home..i'll put the new plugs back in now to see whats what... its starting to feel like a vacuum line issue more
