Title: AC and resurculation light.

Should both of these buttons light up with the headlights like the hazard and rear defog switch do?  I have installed another switch for another reason and it is dark at night to, but if you push either button on they light up, just not with the headlights?

IIRC, these two only light up when active, not with the headlights. I haven't driven the car in over a year, but this is what I remember.

yep - that's true, they light up when their system is on.  The A/C won't turn on at all if it's discharged to protect the compressor seals.  The recirc I'm not so sure on.  It just uses two small actuators on top of the HVAC housing...maybe they're stuck?  I'd live with it because you have to take out the dash to really get at them.

With the AC off, the recirc button will turn the fan on at low speed. If you press the button and nothing happens, then the switch is bad. I had a switch that worked but the internal bulb on the swtich with dead.

Yeah what the hell?  In almost every thread this BS is there.  Has someone informed the Admins?
