Title: Black Friday Stereo Deal at Best Buy (clean looking)
Post by: enildeR on November 25, 2009, 06:35:10 PM
Dunno if any of you are looking for a new, yet simple, stereo replacement over the factor tapedeck.

I came across a black friday ad for a Pioneer package: http://tinyurl.com/yjupxnq

The BF add is here: http://www.black-friday.net/bf/bestbuy-black-friday.html

The headunit, from what I can gather, is the DEH-11E: http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Products/CarAudioVideo/In-Dash/CD-Players/Pioneer/DEH-11E?tab=B

You get two speakers and a decent headunit for 89. It has AUX in on the faceplate. The speakers aren't top-of-the-line, but they are better than the stock ones, if you still have those in the kickpanel.

The only drawback is that faceplate has green LEDs. If you're electronic/tech savvy, you could replace the green LEDs with red/orange ones. bmwman91 has a thread about doing something similar for his headunit.

Might be an option if you don't want to fork over the cash for a CD43 or Nakamichi. This is what I'm going to do until I can get a hold of either of the former.

Cheers

Are you sure it does not switch colors? Most of the DEH series do, you hold a button down for 10 seconds and the display switches between Orange and green. I just blew one up a while back that had that feature.

I ended up getting a Kenwood Excelon KDC-993 unit.  It was $200 and for speakers I scored a full set of 325is premium speakers for $10 a piece.  I figure for a little over $100 more, I won't have the desire to upgrade for quite some time.

The premium speakers are simply in a different galaxy compared to the original ones and worth every penny- so much so that I might not put in an amp and subwoofer any time soon.  I would recommend this to anyone looking for a very cheap stereo upgrade.

The head unit is stupid cool with all the toys and bells and whistles and with all the gimmicky sound scape changes, is really quite nice.  I got it for the iPod control, face color customization (to match OEM color), and BT phone support.

It does not, however, look too OEM as a whole.
